Unit 2 introduces the towering figure of FDR. Students study the birth of big government in the contexts of the Great Depression and World War II, and then focus on the maturity of Russian Communism under Joseph Stalin and the onset of the Cold War. The unit closes by studying the birth of modern Israel.
