Michael Somerville, and his wife, Jessica, began homeschooling their oldest daughter in 2012. They discovered that Jessica, as a new homeschooling mom, needed “on-the-job training” to learn how to thrive in her new role as a teaching parent. They wanted an “on-ramp” to the educational super-highway that is Tapestry of Grace. Thus, Tapestry Primer was born as an introduction to the full Tapestry of Grace program. It’s story-driven approach to integrated humanities studies that emphasizes whole family education while introducing the joy of unit studies for new teachers. To use another analogy, Tapestry Primer was designed as a sampler platter for a Tapestry of Grace buffet, introducing the story of history in one year through twelve mini-units. This hands-on, real books approach to history, with an introduction to great stories, gentle memory work, and fun maps and other activities, has been delighting families whose oldest student is still learning to read (Kindergarten to 2nd grade). Tapestry Primer can be used for a single school year, or can easily be stretched out to two school years.
